Mathematics Behind The Shape of Shivalingam

I like this one the most because it is related to Mathematics. So, we will talk about the shape of Shivalingam from the point-of-view of Mathematics.

Mathematics Behind the Shape of Shivalingam

In Sanskrit, Linga means a ‘mark’ or a symbol, which points to an inference. Thus the Shiva Linga is a symbol of Lord
Shiva – a mark that reminds of the Omnipotent Lord, Which is formless.

Sphere

In Mathematics, a sphere represents a perfect shape. It bas one centre which means that there is only God (Good Things) .It is called perfect because it has the maximum area.

Ellipsoid

So, when the perfect and formless God willed and wished the creation, a distortion arose in that form. From sphere it got converted to an ellipsoid. Change in shape , ellipsoid -> ellipse which means that there exists two things in this universe ( because ellipse has two foci (centre) ).

Water drop , Rain Drop etc ...
Every free element in this world tries to get the
shape of a sphere. Consider a freely falling water drop. It
has the shape of a sphere.
It resembles the shape of

Ellipsoid is a distortion of the perfect shape, which is a sphere. An ellipsoid believes to have two centers.

Because spherical shape represents the perfect state. It denotes the formless aspect of God. It also represents the state when the universe was not born.

An example of Ellipsoid

An egg is a perfect example of an ellipsoid. It doesnot have edges which means that God does not belong to a single religion .God has no religion . The Linga is like an egg, and represents the ‘Brahmanda’ or the cosmic egg. Linga signifies that the creation is effected by the union of ‘Prakriti’ and ‘Purusha,’ the male and the female powers of Nature. Linga also signifies ‘Satya,’ ‘Jnana’ and ‘Ananta’ – Truth, knowledge and Infinity.

Shivalingam actually represents the universe.
It is the symbol that connects the formless with the form.
From the sphere to the ellipsoid.

Form of Shivalingam -Ellipsoid

An ellipsoid is a type of quadric surface that is a higher dimensional analogue of an ellipse . The equation of a standard axis-aligned ellipsoid body in an xyz- Cartesian coordinate system is shown above.

About Praveenkumar P Kalikeri

ABOUT US Hey,Thanks for dropping by .First I would like to Appreciate for your love towards the Mathematics Subject. My name is Praveenkumar Kalikeri. I'm an Engineering Student from Karnataka , India. My Passion for Mathematics , encouraged me to start this blog . I Started loving the Mathematics subject from my schooling days.I was greatly motivated by teachers, parents who always helped me .        Numbers have Beauty !! They fascinated me .. As we all know best method to try out something new is to study old theories , concepts , its drawbacks, etc. I ,myself Started learning Vedic Mathematics at age of 15. Here , I will share vedic maths tricks learned and modified by me in simple manner which will be useful in various competitive exams. "If You Believe , You Can Do".
