I like this one the most because it is related to Mathematics. So, we will talk about the shape of Shivalingam from the point-of-view of Mathematics.
Mathematics Behind the Shape of Shivalingam
In Sanskrit, Linga means a ‘mark’ or a symbol, which points to an inference. Thus the Shiva Linga is a symbol of Lord
Shiva – a mark that reminds of the Omnipotent Lord, Which is formless.

In Mathematics, a sphere represents a perfect shape. It bas one centre which means that there is only God (Good Things) .It is called perfect because it has the maximum area.
So, when the perfect and formless God willed and wished the creation, a distortion arose in that form. From sphere it got converted to an ellipsoid. Change in shape , ellipsoid -> ellipse which means that there exists two things in this universe ( because ellipse has two foci (centre) ).
Ellipsoid is a distortion of the perfect shape, which is a sphere. An ellipsoid believes to have two centers.
Because spherical shape represents the perfect state. It denotes the formless aspect of God. It also represents the state when the universe was not born.
An egg is a perfect example of an ellipsoid. It doesnot have edges which means that God does not belong to a single religion .God has no religion . The Linga is like an egg, and represents the ‘Brahmanda’ or the cosmic egg. Linga signifies that the creation is effected by the union of ‘Prakriti’ and ‘Purusha,’ the male and the female powers of Nature. Linga also signifies ‘Satya,’ ‘Jnana’ and ‘Ananta’ – Truth, knowledge and Infinity.
An ellipsoid is a type of quadric surface that is a higher dimensional analogue of an ellipse . The equation of a standard axis-aligned ellipsoid body in an xyz- Cartesian coordinate system is shown above.
